God's Candids

A couple weeks ago, it was storming really badly every night. The lightning lit up the entire sky. I was sleeping in the dining room, because my granny was in my room. The sliding glass doors really didn’t shield the lit up sky very well. Anyway, it got me thinking about candid shots. Yes, like on a camera. You know…you don’t really expect the lightning to light up the whole sky. You can’t really predict lighting, I don’t think. Just like you can’t really predict when someone will randomly take your picture. (that’s why it’s random.)

Point is that you never know when Jesus is going to return. He said it’s going to be like a thief in the night (1 Thessalonians 5:2). So what are you going to be doing? Are you going to be sinning? Do you think you might be in the middle of stealing something? Maybe you’ll be disrespecting your parents or cheating from someone’s homework. Then again, maybe you’ll be in the middle of an intense worship song or deep in Bible study. Wouldn’t you much rather be in the middle of a prayer when Jesus shows up rather than being caught in a lie?

I have a rule about candid shots on my camera: if you don’t want the picture on Facebook, you shouldn’t have made the face. Jesus has the same rule – if you don’t want to be judged for it later, don’t do it! He’s going to judge us for everything we do, whether it’s good or bad or public or secret (Ecclesiastes 12:14). So next time you have a clear choice in what to do, think about how God feels. Think about what He would say if He were to return at that moment. Is what you’re doing pleasing to Him, or pleasing yourself?
