Well, yesterday turned out to be a good day. After a LONG TIME, I was able to restart a friendship. It feels really good. (: In the words of Emily Rutzen, "I like God."
Today, I'm going to talk about sincerity. I went to Pottery Works today, and I rediscovered my love for that store...but it got me thinking about how we're God's pottery. (For those of you who have seen "Last Comic Standing", no, that's not what I meant.) The word "sincerity" comes from the Greek word "sincera", meaning "without wax". In Bible times, potters would make their pots, and fire them, just like at Pottery Works. However, sometimes the clay cracked. Instead of making a whole new pot, they'd fill the cracks with wax, and still sell them. Now, if you looked at the pot straight up, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. If you held it up to the sun, you could see all the cracks.
That's JUST like us. This is mostly about your motives. When you do something, who are you doing it for? Why are you doing it? Other people won't be able to tell if you're doing things for the right reasons...but when they hold you up next to Jesus (the Light of the World), what do they see? Do they see a pot that's being molded by our Potter? Or do they see the cracks that you've tried to fill with things that God didn't intend for you to be filled with?
My favorite hymn used to be "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". The words are "Have Thine own way, Lord. Have Thine own way. Thou art the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after Thy will. While I am waiting, yielded and still."
I think it's about time that we yield ourselves to our Potter and let Him do his work.
Rina(:
