On Easter

Hello there, beautiful readers.

I meant to update this on Saturday, but time escaped me, as we drove to Savannah on a whim and spent the day there.

Anyway, the past week and half, I have been so utterly busy. It's been insane. On the way to Savannah, all I could think about were all of the different things I needed to blog about....and why in the world I didn't bring a notebook to organize my thoughts. (Never again!)

Now, what I wanted to talk about was Easter. Even though it has passed, I'm going to talk about it anyway. Easter is a really important time in the life of a Christian. Without Easter, there would be no basis for Christianity at all. If Jesus were still in the grave, what would we be living for?

I don't know about you, but I think it would really suck to live a life on earth with no meaning. Living in the midst of poverty, incurable disease, violence, depression, loneliness, murder, hatefulness...the list goes on. It doesn't make sense to me that we would be created at random just to live in the midst of all this hurt.

I saw this skit at PEP a few weeks ago that was set at the end of the world. People from all over stood before the throne of God wondering why He hadn't done anything about the hurt in this world, demanding that He go through what we have to. Demanding that He come down from His "high horse" and live like we have to. Demanding that He be hurt by His own people and persecuted for His actions. After the requests had been hurled towards God, everyone realized that He had already done that. He had already been through what we go through. He has already dealt with grief and anger and temptation. He KNOWS what it's like.

In a single week, He went from being the most celebrated man in Jerusalem to the most hated man throughout the region. In a single week, one of His closest friends betrayed Him for money. In a single week, those who had followed Him faithfully for thirty-three years demanded that He die the most shameful death. In a single week, another of His closest friends would deny even being affiliated with Him - not once, but three separate times. His closest friends would fall asleep as He was in so much pain, not even caring that He would die for their faults just hours later. He endured torture. He endured temptation by Satan himself. He healed the sick, the blind, and the lame. He associated with people that were hated by society. He made food for 5,000 with five loaves of bread and two fish. He cast out demons. He walked on water. He was the propitiation for our sins thousands of years before we were born.

And yet, we demand to know why He doesn't care about us when He repeated has proved Himself. Easter has passed, but that doesn't mean we should forget about the life of the One who was able to save us. He is risen!

He is risen, indeed.
