Christian Life Compared to Cleaning the Bathroom

Okay, so if there's one thing I absolutely HATE in this world, it's cleaning the bathroom. I think it's gross. I don't like it. I don't understand how it gets so dirty. In my house, there are four kids, and four major sections of the house, and they're divided between Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. (We also have laundry days, but that's another story.) So today was my day to clean the living room and the bathroom.

o_O. Really, it should never get as dirty as it was today because everyone should be doing their chores on their assigned day. :P But, anyway, as I was cleaning, I decided that today I was going to clean my chore "heartily as unto the Lord" because 1) It's Biblical. (Colossians 3:23-"And whatsoever ye do, do heartily as unto the Lord.") and 2) It's not like I have anything better to do with my day. I figured I might as well do my chore the good-er-est.

Anyway, I swept and sprayed and wiped and cleaned every inch of the bathroom and the living room and all I could think about was how in the WORLD it could've gotten SO. DIRTY. (In case you were wondering, when it's cold outside, my giant dog that could be a Cerberus, makes his home in the bathroom and makes it dirty. Jerk.) And it made me think about sin.

When we're forgiven for a sin, we don't plan (hopefully) to make such a mess of things ever again. We should be trying to keep ourselves clean and pure(1 John 5:18 - "We know that God's children do not make a practice of sinning..."). If we aren't, God won't listen to us.
(Isaiah 59:2-"But your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear.") But sometimes our lives get dirty...not because we planned it - just because we allow our sin to build up. We make excuses for "little" sin like lying or gossiping, but there is NO excuse for sin. Ever.

It also makes worship impossible. (Haggai 2:14 - "...That is how it is with this people and this nation, says the LORD. Everything they do and everything they offer is defiled by their sin.")

My other thought whilst cleaning the bathroom was "Please, PLEASE don't let it get this dirty again..." Do you ever think that God thinks the same thing? He always forgives us...no matter what we do, no matter how many times we've done it, no matter how many times He knows we'll do it in the future. He forgives us. That doesn't mean there aren't consequences (Nahum 1:3 - "The LORD is slow to get angry, but His power is great, and He never lets the guilty go unpunished.") and that doesn't mean He isn't hurt by it (Jeremiah 3:19 - "I thought to Myself, 'I would love to treat you as My own children!' I wanted nothing more than to give you this beautiful land - the finest possession in the world. I looked forward to your calling Me 'Father', and I wanted you never to turn from Me."). It just means He promised to forgive us for it if we're truly repentant (1 John 1:9 - "But if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.")

It's really amazing what you can get out of life if you learn to pay attention.

So...basically Izzy stole my words. But forreal, I love this. I absolutely love your knack for finding the big picture in the petty, every day things.

Yeah I agree, you are so good at comparing everything with how we should live, and not live. It's really cool, keep it up :)
