No One Can Be a Drop-Dead Diva

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12

Yesterday a 24-year-old woman who had collapsed in the second leg of the Jacksonville Sprint Series Triathlon, died. Though this was due to a medical condition, it still came as a shock to her friends and family. Who would’ve ever thought that someone healthy enough to attempt a triathlon would collapse in the middle of it?

The same shock must have come to the relatives of a couple in their fifties when they died in a fiery car crash on I-95. No one expects to be killed in a car crash when they pull out of the driveway every day. But did you know that one person dies in a car crash every twelve minutes in the United States?

These stories show us that we can grow in wisdom. How? If you realized that your life could end at any moment, how would you live? Would you quit smoking? Spend more time with your family? Work harder on that project at work? The reality of this situation is that your life could end at any second. Focus on today and what you can do to grow in wisdom. Wisdom is not measured in knowledge, but life experience. What are you doing for others? What is enriching your life? Are you filling your life with things that will bring you health and happiness in the future, or things that will only give you a temporary high?

“Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.” – Proverbs 27:1

You don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Jesus lived every day of His life serving others – not being served. He lived unselfishly, loving everyone, no matter their social status or financial situation. He spent time with those who were deemed unworthy by society. His life on earth was the perfect model for how we are to live our lives today. Serving unselfishly, loving unconditionally, and living in such a way that others will see your faith in Christ and want to imitate it.

This is a wonderful reminder about how a Christian is supposed to live. I like this part: "Unselfishly serving, loving unconditionally, and living in such a way that others will see your faith in Christ and want to imitate it." You're wonderful, Rina. And I love to read what you write. I learn more about Jesus.
