Girls, how many of you have ever done your makeup in a compact mirror? Eye shadow and all? Guys, how many of you have ever seen a girl wearing WAY too much makeup? Or wearing makeup that’s uneven?
Well this morning, I did my makeup in a compact. And in that little mirror, my makeup looked pretty good. Granted, I could only see one little section of my face at a time. So, when I went into the bathroom to see my whole face in the mirror, I realized that my makeup was completely uneven. Pretty embarrassing. I fixed it, and then went about the rest of my morning.
What’s the point of all that? Have you ever tried to spot clean your Christian life? You know, like, “Today I want to be kind to everyone I meet. No mean words will pass through my mind.” Now that’s all well and good, but what about your thought life? Or your actions? It doesn’t matter if your words are kind if you think bad thoughts about that person. It doesn’t matter if your words are kind if you turn around and do something you know is wrong.
Jesus came to earth to change your entire life. Not just your words, your thoughts, your actions, your attitudes, or your lifestyle. He came to change YOU. He wants to pull you away from trying to make yourself look good in a tiny little mirror. He wants to show you that your life is much bigger and much more meaningful when you look at it from His perspective. From God’s perspective, He sees what you do now and what you’re going to do later and what you’ve done way before now. Sure, He sees all of the things you do for Him and He loves when you love to please Him. But He also sees the times we’re not so good and the times we act out in anger or bitterness.
The little things you do now may have an impact on someone else’s eternity. Maybe telling one person about how God worked in your life will inspire someone else to seek Him. Then again, maybe gossiping about your friend will turn someone completely away from Christ. Jesus has the power to take any situation and turn it around, but your entire life should be reflecting Him. You’re HIS mirror. So how big are you? Are you just trying to show the world a reflection of the little spots of “good” in your life? Or are you showing them eternity by how you live?
